brook trout fishing

Had an opportunity to fish with my brother Tom Waldock and cousin Colin Waldock for brookies last weekend. we headed to a small lake just outside of algonquin park. i was skeptical on fishing conditions considering last year we werent on that lake till early may, even then we were breaking through some ice. as we got are duck boat to the edge of the lake I immediatly saw a school of small pinhead minnows, always a good sign. i hadnt seen much insect life so decided to tie on a small brown an yellow xrap immitating the minnows i saw earlier. we began throwing a variety of lures around the circumfrance of the lake trying to narrow down where the fish may be. normaly i would head to any flowing water but having no creeks or rivers we stuck mostly around large trees. we got the best luck anywhere there was a nice looking tree covered by shade. it was a slow day but i believe the brookies will really pick up in the weeks to come, especially if we get some rain followed by warm weather.
