Kempt Back Lake

On August 13th I had the opportunity to fish a tournament with my 14 year old son, Connor. We went to Yarmouth for the weekend and fished one of the Lakeside Smallmouth Bass Club events. Upon takeoff, many of the boats headed to a large flat on a point right across from the launch. Not being familiar with the lake, we idled across to the same area and started fishing shoreline, heading away from a cluster of boats on the point. Over the next couple hours, we managed to pick up 5 small keepers, but nothing of any size. We worked our way back to the point. There were still a couple boats there, but lots of room to move around and fish. On our initial approach, I hooked a better fish on a Venom jig with a copper gold flake tube. That one in the livewell and we continued to move around the flat for most of the day. I picked up our two best fish on a #4 Silver Blue Fox. We weighed in 6.98 lbs., good for 3rd place.
