NBSFA Oromocto

Five weeks ago, I took my kids to the NBSFA Kids Fishing tournament in Oromocto. Not wanting to pull fish off our usual tournament spots, we spent most of the time fishing new water. We discovered a little spot that was stacked full of bass and my oldest son Connor caught a number of fish between 15" - 17.5", not huge, but they help when the fishing is tough. The following week, my brother and I hit the same spot around mid day and caught a bunch of fish around the same size. During our tournament this past weekend, we decided to hit it first thing to see if it held better fish. Within a half dozen casts, sure enough, I hooked a 3 lb. smallmouth and a couple other small fish. Off to our next two spots and we caught a couple of big twos. After that we hit another of our spots and eventually caught a couple other threes. Went to the scales knowing we had around 15 lbs. Weighed in at 15 lbs. even, but there was one other bag already in at 15.7 lbs., so we had to settle for second place. After a slow start to the season, we have a second and a third in our last two events. We would need to pretty much go wire to wire in the last two events, if we want to defend our TOTY title, and even then we likely need some help from others, but the fun is in trying. Can't wait to get back out there next Saturday!
