A Beautiful Reminder

Out here in Alberta there is a ton of work, but not much fishing. I've been Working with my older brothers building Hydro towers. We get to the job site at a healthy 730 every morning and get to watch the sunrise with our hard hats on...I wish it was with a Berkley hat on beside a creek instead but hey sometimes you've got to bite the bullet before you can drop a line. We work all day out here assembling the massive Hydro towers on the ground. In most cases we build the towers in sections on their sides to soon be put together and erected behind us. Each tower takes about three days for our eight man crew to build and everyday we dont leave the site until just after dark. Zero time to fish let alone have any fun. It's the middle of nowhere and I have no daylight to myself. EVER. 28 STRAIGHT days of this can wear you out; the money is good and I'm saving for all things fishing, but I'm so longing to wet a line everyday back home its unbearable. Which is why I've got to share with you what happened today. It really brightened up this whole shift for me and reminded me why I do what I do and why Im so fond of angling the outdoors. Plus I loving sharing it the best I can as a guide so here goes: Along a 500 km range In northern Alberta lies 1400 tower sites soon to be assembled, erected, and strung on farm land. Our crews are hard working and very efficient builders. Sometimes it seems like nothing can stop constuction or stand in the way; not even mother nature. But nature always seems to fight back in someway doesn't it...... Sometimes with a violent snowstorm or worse. Today, everyone in the field was reminded of the power that nature can hold over us. We got shut down around 3pm but it wasn't because of a snowstorm; it was because of a rare eagle nesting in a freshly built tower. Like clockwork it seemed, The beautiful giant bird built a massive nest High above any predators, just beside us. No doubt preparring to have babies for the spring. Valard, being the reputable company that it is, incorporates very strict environmental guidlines into the regime. At no time can any crew build within 1000m of a protected nesting bird. Work stopped, everyone looked up, but no one was mad. I took out my camera, got some shots, then we all got in the trucks and drove away as to not disturb this incredible beast of the open plains. As we drove away the guys in my truck didn't say much....who knows what they were thinking, but I was grinning and thinking to myself.... I love Nature. I love the outdoors, all the creatures in it, and the power it has over us whether we choose to recognize it or not. I can't wait to go on my next adventure. Today was a good day.
