Back Lake Bassin'

My friend Scott Dougan and I had an awesome experience over the summer, we hit a small back lake for some BIG smallmouth! I couldn't get my Stratos 201 anywhere near there, so we took my 12' aluminum and a 12v trolling motor and had a day! On my first cast I had a 14'' bass and it just went from there. In 2.5 hours we had a 70+ fish day, with our biggest going over 4 pounds, out average fish was between 1.5-2 pounds, not huge but really fun. The smallmouth were relating to the weed lines in the low light areas; we were getting them on a Storm Chug-Bug, worked slow, and an Anglers Choice Wart Hawg (Albino Shad Colour) casting on the grass edges. Also to my surprise; I caught a 13'' brook trout on a topwater plug, and it was good eating. haha This just goes to show you, even the most out of the way spots can hold some nice bass! I encourage you when spring/summer hits to get out to those "back lakes" and you'll have a shot at a fish of a lifetime.
