2 Hours Too Late

This past weekend the whole crew set out on all 3 Boston Whalers to defend our title at the 2nd Annual Jessy Arsola tournament; located down in Matagorda, Texas. The Tournament was a simple big trout tournament; live weigh-in at 2:30pm on a reef, and trout had to be over 6 lbs to even qualify. We had pre-fished Thursday and Friday to try and seek out the monsters; got into a lot of fish but nothing of size. Saturday morning we launch to our secret spot; 6am on the dot we hop out of the boat to begin our wade. Between 6:15am-6:40am it was chaos in the water. Literally every other cast BOOM! Huge corky Thump! We easily caught over 20 fish in the span of 25mins; unfortunately the biggest was a little under 5 lbs, not even being close to a weighable fish. We continued our grind through the sunrise and for about 5 more hours with 1 maybe 2 thumps. The bite had completely shut off. Making a game time decision, we set off to another solid spot where we have caught big trout at before. Pulling up to the new spot, the water clarity looked fire, hoping there was one giant swimming passing through, we hopped out and set off on another power wade......Not a bite......The time being now 1:15pm we decided to just hang it and crack open a couple cold ones while we wait for the weigh in. After a little time past we headed to the weigh in to see what boat brought in the winning fish. To our surprise, there was NO fish that was weighed in. Nobody caught a Trout over 6 lbs.... Deliberating on whether or not to go back in to the marina or fish the sunset, we decided to head back to one of our holes for the evening bite! What happened then you may be wondering....We pull up into an insane school of fish! In the span of maybe 1-2 hours we caught over 100 fish, trout & reds between 3 boats. Lo and behold, Connor hooks up a 28" 6 3/4 lb trout! We couldn't do anything but laugh. Following that fish, another monster trout was caught weighing just under 6 lbs. Not to mention we hooked up on over 20 reds and 2 of those reds were Donkeys! Made for one Hell of an evening bite, shared with brothers doing what we love. Could not ask for a better end of our day/ tournament grind. Sometimes you have to grind all day and all weekend until your final wade or drift, then all that time that seemed to be wasted, grinding without a bite, ends up being much more than worth the while! Stay Tight & Stay Lucky
