Early Season Musky
With a cold winter and a late spring, our lakes are a few weeks behind in weed growth and water temperature.
With this in mind, I decided that I would concentrate on areas close to spawning areas on my first Musky fishing adventure of the year.
Keying in on areas that fish will hold, as the slowly make their way from spawning bays to their summer areas on the main lake can be a key ingredient to finding these toothy critters this time of year.
As they leave their spawning areas, Musky;s will make stops in areas that will hold food and also provide some cover. What you need to figure out is, where they spawn, and where their summer range is. Once you figure that out, then you can start to search out areas in between that they may stop at.
It was one of these holding spots that paid off in a large way for me a week ago.
While taking advantage of some free time on a rainy Friday afternoon, it was an "in between" areas that held a trophy Kawartha Musky that was on the feed.
Take a look at your lake maps and charts, locate potential spawning areas and summer ranges and then hit the spots "in between" . It could be your golden ticket to your next trophy.
