Crappie Time
Managed to get out for the first time last week for some crappies, hitting a favourite spot of mine on the Rideau River. Water temperature varied between 55 and 60-degrees and all fish were holding tight and relating to wood. Stumps and laydowns in 2 to 6-feet of water produced the best results.
Put approximately 25+ fish in the boat for a few hours work. No slabs on this day...but a good 10 to 11-inch average. With the water level down, finding good wood that had a bit of water around it was the most challenging part.
All fish came on a slip float, rigged with a Northland "Bro Bug" and Northland "Impulse Water Bug." Back at it again next week!

Hi Cooper,
Crappie fishing is relatively simple. A slip bobber coupled with a small jig head and micro plastic (1")does the trick. Some good choices are small tubes, curly tails, and various creature-style baits. If fish are a bit deeper, ditch the float and just work the jig in.
If fish are fairly active, tossing micro cranks to them can also be a tonne of fun.
It terms of equipment, an ultralight or light rod, ultralight reel and 6lb test mono will suffice.
Good Luck in your search...
