Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire

Along with my kids event in early spring, I really like seeing all of these kids event popping up around the area. Unfortunately, I can't make it to all of them but I have been wanting to make this one here in my home town of Smiths Falls. Scheduling conflicts in the past have prevented me from coming to help out. Well, this year the fish Gods looks down upon me and I was able to attend. It is a great thing that the Smiths Falls Police Services puts on for the kids. It was nice to see the kids catching fish and the smiles on their faces is what makes it all worth while. The other part of these type of events that is amazing to see is the quality family time being spent between parent and child. Memories that will last a life time. Over 75 kids participated on Sunday and each child received a prize. I just want to say a big Thank You to the Smiths Falls Police Services and all of the volunteers that were are this event and all of the other events around. There is a lot of planning and work that goes into an event like this. It is more than just the day of the event. There are many hours of planning, and organizing. So thank you to all involved. The reason for this post is to show everyone that it doesn't always have to be expensive to do something with kids. Kids like fishing as long as they are catching fish and panfish (bluegill, "sun fish" rock bass, pumpkinseed) are easy to catch this time of year and can be caught pretty much from any shoreline. I have always said "Take a kid fishing, they are the future of our sport" I mean that whole heartedly. Teach them the joys of fishing and the outdoors and they will never forget it and hopefully pass on the tradition to their kids.
