First Run of 2021

It's that time of year once again to get the boat ready for the season. Took the Nitro Z-9 powered with the Mercury 250 Pro XS out for its first run of the season. Started with no problem and ran well as expected with these great products. After giving it a good run, decided to go and target some panfish. This is a species that I love targeting with ultra-light rod and reel and small baits such as Quantum Xtralite Spinning Combo with 4 lbs test line tied onto Angler's Choice soft plastics. The fight from these fish is so much fun, not only for adults but it is also a great way to introduce the next generation of anglers or even someone new to fishing. Their numbers are usually high and the action is non-stop. You look for them early in the spring on the deep weed lines and as the water temps start warming up, make your way into the shallow bays as they start the spawning process. Like every other species, harvesting these makes a great meal but try and release the larger ones so that they can continue with the spawn and keep the species prospering. So, head out with some lightweight tackle and head out whether you are fishing from a boat or from shore, panfish fishing is a great way to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.
