Bone Fish Paradise

Looking for a winter vacation where Bone Fish over 10lbs is standard protocol and the scenary better than you can imagine? Well, look no further than Andros Island in The Bahamas. This is a Bone Fish Paradise with untouched numbers, huge fish and endless miles of Aqua Marine waters farther than the eye can see! Over the Christmas break my wife and I booked our vacation to Nassau Bahamas. I called Dave Mercer to see if he knew of any guides in that area and that\'s how I was introduced to Captain Patterson Bowleg. Native to the Bahamas, Captain Patterson\'s knowledge of these waters is very extensive with years of experience. So many that he wouldn\'t say, but I\'m guessing at least 20, though you didn\'t hear that from me. Picking the right guide is the most important decision you\'ll make and I found Patterson to be very personable, funny and most importantly, he knows his stuff! Nassau is only a 15 min flight to Andros and the $100 price tag for a round trip was a nominal fee. I took my wive with me to take some pictures and video. Sounds bad, but the truth is she couldn\'t handle the power of these fish and really had no interest in trying which I thought was lucky for me! 95% of the fishing is with a Fly Rod, but having little experience, I brought and Loomis 7\'6\" M action Spinning Travel rod and a brand new FI Stradic 2500 instead. A little advice would be to go with a 3000 size reel for the extra line capacity as I almost got spooled on several occasions. 10lb PowerPro and a small spool of 10lb Florocarbon leader material helped as these fish are extremely spooky! As far as lures go, I brought an assortment of jig heads in the 1/8oz-1/4oz weights with a stout 4/0 hook and 3\"- 4\" grubs in an assortment of colors, but it was the Conch that Patterson added to my offering that made the difference. Without it would have been a tough go. In the end, he got me on fish and some big ones as well. My tally was 10 landed, 3 lost, one broke off and a bonus Snapper, which i also lost! Patterson\'s son, i\'m sure wasn\'t very happy with me as I used up the entire Conch that he and his father scrambled to get the night before I arrived. I\'ll have to make it up to him on the next trip! These fish fight like no other and believe me when I say, they will test you and every piece of your equipment. The power of these fish is almost unmatched! It was truly trip of a life time and I\'ll definitely be back, next time with a Fly rod and for 3 days! If you\'re looking for a winter destination give Captain Patterson call and he\'ll get you on fish fast! His contact info is below.
