A few tips that made a tough morning successful

My brother wanted to go fishing today and I couldn't say no. So we got to the river around 7:30 and got to the hole we wanted. Sure enough there's 8 other people fishing it, expected during the weekends so we dropped our lines. Everyone is stacked up at the top of the hole, so we decide to fish the tail out. Talk to the guy next to us and not much happening. I look over at my bro and wink, first drift....fish on. Tip 1- Everybody was using big roe bags in popular colors, white, chart, red and nothing was working. So I decide to throw on something that the fish haven't seen yet. This is a time to throw on pinks, roe bags in odd colors, black, blues, jigs, etc, Tip 2- Be versatile, you don't need to bunch up into the crowds to fish that log jam, boulder, etc. especially on the weekends. Don't get me wrong the fish will be there but they have seen so many baits that they may have shut down. So fish the tail outs as well as different widths of the run(short, mid and long), try not to get caught up only drifting what you think is the deepest or fastest part of the run(sometimes I am guilty of this). Sure enough now the 3 people up top from me all have pinks on so time to change again lol. It was a pretty slow day, only got 2 smaller ones for the couple of hours we were there but these tips helped beach some fish on a slow day. Didn't see any other fish caught in that hole other than my 2. Tip 3- Ensuring you have enough weight on your line to cock your float. I see this very often where people have there floats floating way high out of the water. Only the tip or colored area of the float should be above the water. If it is high above the water then you need more weight or need to downsize your float. Ensuring you have your float cocked is important because it slows down your float which slows down your presentation and can detect those soft strikes more accurately. I thought today would be on fire but I guess it got hit hard yesterday. Looking forward to my next outing.
