Mid Season Report: Smally kinda summer!
Well its almost August and looking back on the first half of the summer I just realized I've done a ton of smallmouth fishing and very little largemouth fishing. I kind of miss punching those Trigger X goo bugs through the slop mats anticipating that "thunk" that we wait all winter for! The smallies haven't been shy though. I've had some great luck catching them with the old stand by this year…. A 4" Trigger X tube and some on the flapping grub. I had a great day fishing the CBAF joint event on Lake Erie and three amazing days at the Kingston Canadian open hunting down deep and shallow smallmouth on the tube. The one constant pretty much everywhere I've been this season is that fish have wanted the tube and grub fished slowly, almost dead sticking it. I use the Seeker reel when fishing tubes because it has a large spool, holds a ton of line and helps make super long casts to those spooky clear water fish.
Here's hoping the second half will be as good as the first!

I bet you had a blast in Kingston it's a smallmouth factory and thanks for sharing your run down regarding tube fishing I'll have to remember it for Rice lake in a few weeks.
