The Erie Tribs beckoned

The Erie tribs have been on fire so it has been hard to stay away. I went out with my best friend's boyfriend Adam who is an avid fly fisherman. We had a late start in the day and didn't hit the water until 10:00am. The water was prime after Fridays heavy rainfall, with a beautiful green stain. Parked upstream and made the game plan to walk down and then work our way back up hitting all the holes that had been producing. I started fishing a deep slow drift hole where I found success in the days prior and he went a little farther downstream. Staying together can be a challenge sometimes because spots that are good for fly fisherman may be difficult for pinners to navigate and vise versa. I started off with the same olive jig that has been producing and a couple of drifts in boom, steelhead on! Upon moving back upstream I landed another steelhead. We decided to hit one last spot before driving to another location. Within a few minutes, Adam landed a beautiful colored up buck on a black stonefly. I decided to switch up tackle. Tried an 8mm glow roe bead, but had no luck so threw on a white minnow imitation jig with flash and this is when the action started heating up! My first drift I caught a feisty chromer! He was wild and flew out of the air a few times. Then landed 2 more chromers within 20 minutes putting me at 5/5 on steelhead before we switched locations to meet another one of my fishing buddies. My friend suggested a few spots that I have never fished before so we explored some new water. During that stretch of water I landed 2 more steelheads and lost a nice one. Adam lost a nice buck on a San Juan worm. It is always exciting exploring new water and it's even more rewarding when you catch a fish on the journey. We drove downstream to try one more sport before day's end. I landed 2 more steelhead making my day 9/10. I only switched up tackle a few times today. My success was on those olive jigs, but mainly the white imitation minnow with flash. Adam tried a variety of different tackle, including stoneflies, san jaun worm and crystal meth. To end the day he caught a few suckers and lost a steelhead on one of the white jigs I gave him. Another great day of spring fishing in the books!
