Clear water fishing

I'm back up in Ontario now and have had the chance to do some clear water fishing. When I say clear water I'm referring to water that you can see your bait in deeper than 3 foot. What my buddies in the South consider "clear" water is actually stained here in Ontario. Most that we fishermen hear about lure selection and presentation is for lakes that have some stain to it. Not all lakes have colour and you would be mistaken to use the same plan of attack in clear water as you would in stained water. Just because you can't see the fish in clear water doesn't mean that they are not there. Bass have the ability to "blend in" with their surroundings. Remember...bass feed more by sight in clear water than they do in stained water. Because they can see much better, they are less fooled by a lure that does not look natural or some bait you got on that isn't presented properly. The fact that bass can see better in clear water is actually an advantage for y'all that use fast moving lures to fool bass. You can disguise your lure better by blending in natural colours with speed. If your moving a lure slowly, the bass can scrutinize it more closely and tell that the colour or shape is not natural. You want to use a fast lure in a colour and size that mostly resembles the natural forage. The bass wont have time to think of it in any other way. The motion of the lure blurs the image to the fish when it's moving faster. The size and colour enable the lure to blend in with the surroundings. The best way to match the forage in clear water is to match the lure to the background of the cover your fishing or the bottom. So, don't be using any gaudy colours that project unnatural images..lol. When I'm fishing in grass I use a watermellon colour. If it's a sandy bottom, colours that best blend in with sand will work best. Try these tips out and you will soon be catching clear water bass where other anglers aren't even getting bit!
