Guiding Report for July
Fishing has been fair to good in the South Okanagan lakes. Largemouth bass are biting in the shallow, weedy bays and the smallmouth are feeding aggressively offshore.
SKAHA LAKE: Skaha has been good lately. During a B.A.S.S. tournament today, me and my partner caught over 30 fish in 8 hours, with the majority in the 1 to 2.5 pound range. These scrappy fish have been hitting a wide variety of lures and presentations and are tons of fun to catch!
OSOYOOS LAKE: Osoyoos Lake has been fair. Smallmouth fishing is generally pretty slow as high water temperatures and low oxygen content this time of year has put the bite off. Largemouth fishing has been better, with fish in the 4-5 pound class coming in regularly.
Any clients that come to the Okanagan looking to catch some bass and get on the water can expect steady action this time of year on Skaha Lake. I recommend this lake for any amateurs, kids or anyone else looking to catch numbers of scrappy fish. Osoyoos can be pretty slow in the summertime and is a better choice for the experienced angler.
Basically, if you are ready to fish hard and chase a trophy-sized bass, pick Osoyoos. If you want to catch numbers of scrappy smallmouth and be entertained, Skaha is the way to go!
