West Coast Pike
There are many quality pike waters in Northern British Columbia. The Omineca-Peace region is particularly rife with them, as is the area near the Yukon border. However, what many people are unaware of is the great pike fisheries in the southeastern portion.
The Kootenay region of British Columbia has recently come under fire due to illegal stockings of northern pike, but there are also long-standing populations which have migrated north from the Pend Oreille watershed in the United States. The Columbia River currently has a mandatory kill order on for any catches of northern pike due to fears of them affecting native fish populations.
Just south of the border, Lake Coeur D'Alene, Lake Pend Oreille and the Clark Fork chain are all well-known and excellent pike spots. Fish in the 10 to 20 pound range are common, with monsters breaking the 30 pound mark taken annually.
