Spednic Lake round two

I am going to try something a little different this year. If you have been watching the show in the past you will know that we have shot several shows on Spednic Lake. All of the shows were from areas we were exploring at the top end of the lake. This year I am going to try and break down the lower end of the lake which I had never been on until a couple of weeks ago. This is one of the prettiest lakes I have been on but it is a nightmare for rocks so if you go caution is not a strong enough word. From the water the shoreline mostly looks the same, boulders are everywhere so we are using Google maps a bit and Lowrance sonar a lot as we try to pick it apart. We started the morning off on the edge of a flat covered in rocks, and fished where it dropped off from three feet to six feet. I was casting a topwater ahead of the boat and my guest Ron was pulling a split shot rigged soft stick bait across the flat. The first fish hit a Jackall SK Pop Grande top water. No apparent reason why it was there until we got up to where it hit. There was a small patch of grass and he owned it. We got several more the same way but we couldn't see the grass before we got to it.Next spot was a small cove with a creek running into it and we both caught a Largemouth there. Ron's first one ever and my first one in NB. We got a picture of Ron's but I never thought to get one of mine. Largemouth Bass are not native to New Brunswick but they have been appearing in some of the waterways over the last few years. We fished a ton of similar looking shoreline and did get some random fish but we did not find anymore grass until late in the day.The next best spot was a fast break from 13 to 23 feet deep and there was a small school of fish hanging on that spot and then we found a bunch. This was another small creek coming into the lake and there was about sixty or seventy feet of grass on the soft bottom. The grass was sub-surface about three feet and they just smashed a Rerange 130 jerkbait and Ron's split shot rig as well. You don;t usually think of them smashing a jerk bait in 79 degree water but smash it they did. Our producer, Shawn, got in on the action for a few minutes as well to end our day tossing a tube to the grass / gravel edge. We are saving our GPS tracks on the Lowrance so we will gradually learn to get around without getting into a panic everytime we see a rock in open water. We will be back for show three and go exploring some more and see what we can find.We used a mix of Shimano rods and reels throughout the day, mostly in the 7' Med range with 2500 Stradics and Saharas spooled with Power Pro. Shawn is partial to the Zodias with a 2500 Stadic on it so he knows what to pick up for sure. I tried a mix today and used the new 7' M SLX spinning and the 7" M Exage rod as well. I am very impressed with the 2500 Sahara reels, they are smooth, quiet and have a nice drag for fighting those crazy Smallmouth.#fishshimanocan #fishjackallcan #anglersunite
