Grey Cup Champ meets some fall Smallies

I had the pleasure of fishing with Jake Thomas yesterday on the Saint John River in Woodstock, NB. He is a busy guy and I was lucky to talk him out of going to the office at Keller Williams and jumping in the boat with us. You can see us on You Tube under Backwater Casting. We faced a very cloudy day and never caught a glimpse of the sun and we ended the day with a half hour of rain which we need but we did get wet.I got the day started off with a tremendous 7 inch Smallmouth in the Keg and Jake quickly followed that up with one just over three pounds. He was going to make me work for big fish of the day. We picked up a few more fish in the Meduxnekeag and then headed out to the river and hit a half a dozen spots throughout the day. Jake got most of his fish going back and forth between a tube and a drop shot setup, I mixed it up a bit with a Jackall Rerange 110, tube and a dropshot. Our producer, Shawn, got into the action later in the afternoon and he caught all of his fish on a melon pepper tube on a 1/8th ounce head. He was fishing with a new 7" M Shimano Intensza spinning rod and a 2500 series Sahara reel with 20 lb Power Pro and a flouro leader.I was using a Shimano Zodias 270MH for the Rerange and my old favourite Cumara 7'2" Drop Shot rod with 8 lb flourocarbon.Jake got most of his fish with a Shimano SLX spinning rod with a 2500 Stradic spooled with 20 lb Power Pro and a flouro carbon leader. He was using one of my older V-rods for his drop shot rigged with 8lb monofilament.I did get close to Jake's big fish a couple of times during the day but he took care of that with a 3.5 late in the afternoon for the big one of the day.We caught lots of fish and learned some things about Canadian football and the real estate business. Jake is rightly proud of being part of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Grey Cup championship team and he is looking forward to playing again when life returns to normal. As with all of the pro athletes we have been privileged to have on the show, he has not let up on his training regime and is ready to go. He is devoting the same dedication to his real estate career as well and is doing great there as well.Despite the wet ending in the last half hour it was a pretty good day out there on the Saint John River.#shimanokeepsyoufishing #fishjackallcan #AnglersUnite72People Reached21EngagementsBoost Unavailable44
